Have you ever wished for something so small you barely considered it a request?

 

Something so mundane your conscious mind wouldn’t think to bring it to the Universe?

 

Back in May, while setting up my new workspace in Portugal for a week of Akashic Sessions, it happened to me.

 

Dani, the Farm’s general manager for the May MY Retreat, had thoughtfully transformed one of their unused rooms into my private workspace. It was a gorgeous stone-walled room with high ceilings and double glass doors opening onto a small walled garden.

 

She called it the Secret Garden

 

I was enchanted.

 

 

 

That afternoon, before the retreat began, I spent hours getting acquainted with this new place, setting up Sacred Space, and activating my energy and the energy of the Akashic Field in this special room.

 

Repeatedly, I walked the room in a slow, mindful figure eight, grounding myself and connecting the space more deeply to the upcoming week of Akashic work. (It’s a practice I love. I use that same figure-eight motion with my hand to energize my bathwater before stepping in.)

 

I wasn’t just preparing a physical workspace. I was preparing an energetic one aligned with me, with those who’d come for their sessions, and for the work we’d co-create together with their Records.

 

On the large table by the door, I arranged the boxes of my Akashic Illumination Deck with a colorful silk scarf, turning the table into an altar.

 

Between the two soft chairs where my clients and I would sit was a small round table. With Michelle’s permission, she owns the Farm, I gathered flowers from the garden and created a second altar, adding the sacred items I’d brought from home.

 

However, the flowers didn’t look right.

 

The opening of the small glass I’d found for a vase was too wide, so the stems kept falling outward instead of standing tall.

 

I remember thinking, I wish I had some string to tie these stems together.

 

Then I went back to arranging the room.

 

I moved the chairs.

 

And moved them again.

 

And again.

 

I kept returning to the doorway, imagining the loving energetic welcome each person would receive as they arrived.

 

At some point, I leaned over the back of one of the soft chairs.

 

And there it was.

 

A piece of natural hemp string, caught in the fabric.

 

I pulled it free.

 

Doubled, it was exactly the right length, just what I’d have brought with me, had I known.

 

I just stood there holding it.

 

Really? A piece of string?

I hadn’t made any formal request. Set no intention. Repeated no carefully crafted affirmation. Just one heartfelt little thought: I wish I had a piece of string.

 

 

I tied the flowers, set them back in the glass with a smile and felt an enormous wave of gratitude.

 

Something much bigger than flowers and string was happening.

 

This was the message I received:

You and your new clients are Divinely supported. Pay attention. Ask from your heart. And then be willing to receive.

 

 

 

That little piece of string became a portal. It set the tone for all my Akashic work at the Retreat. The Divine was clearly with us all.

 

When I got home, I started noticing things I’d been tolerating for years, those small annoyances I kept saying I’d fix someday.

 

Suddenly, I found myself thinking: This isn’t good enough anymore.

And then I’d do something about it. It was so easy and I felt so much better with each accomplishment!

 

It made me wonder . . .

What if the Divine is listening to the little things, too? Not only to our biggest prayers, also to the small, half-formed wishes we barely admit to ourselves?

 

What if we’re being invited into a much more intimate relationship with the Divine? One in which we can ask, listen, notice, receive and then act with grace and ease?

Sometimes the doorway to a much bigger transformation is as ordinary as a piece of string.

So the next time a small, heartfelt wish crosses your mind, don’t dismiss it for being too minor.

Ask.

 

Then pay attention.

 

You may be surprised by what’s already waiting for you.
